JMT CR220 – International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea (COLREGS)

International Regulations for the Prevention of Collisions at Sea (COLREGS) – commonly known as Rules of the Road.  These rules govern the interaction between all vessels on the oceans, seas and waterways of the world.  COLREGS also stipulate the mandated day-shapes to be exhibited by vessels with special operating conditions, and the lights to be displayed by all vessels after sunset.  A full understanding of the rules is essential for the safe operation of all vessels.

This information is a “MUST KNOW” for all persons operating boats, and is heavily weighted in any navigational competency test including Captain’s oral exams.  The rules apply to all vessels, and to all mariners regardless of nationality, therefore persons seeking USCG certification can also take the course.

Recreational boaters should also have this knowledge in order to operate safely.
